چکیده

Sepsis is an organ dysfunction caused by uncontrolled inflammatory response from the host to infection. main cause of morbidity and mortality in intensive care units (ICU) worldwide. One first organs suffer injuries resulting sepsis brain. The central nervous system (CNS) particularly vulnerable damage, mediated oxidative processes, which can sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE), being reported up 70% septic patients. This review aims bring a summary pathophysiological changes dysfunctions SAE, focuses current experimental studies for new treatments therapies. pathophysiology SAE complex multifactorial, combining intertwined promoted countless alterations sepsis, such as inflammation, neuroinflammation, stress, reduced brain metabolism, integrity blood-brain barrier (BBB). treatment limited once its not completely understood. patient’s sedation far provide adequate this condition. Studies advances are important better understanding development treatments, medicines, therapies reduce effects during after sepsis.

Sepsis Associated Encephalopathy

Sepsis associated encephalopathy (SAE) is a common but poorly understood neurological complication of sepsis. It is characterized by diffuse brain dysfunction secondary to infection elsewhere in the body without overt CNS infection. The pathophysiology of SAE is complex and multifactorial including a number of intertwined mechanisms such as vascular damage, endothelial activation, breakdown of ...

Sepsis-Associated Encephalopathy

Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) is defined as a diffuse or multifocal cerebral dysfunction induced by the systemic response to the infection without clinical or laboratory evidence of direct brain infection. Its pathogenesis is multifactorial. SAE generally occurs early during severe sepsis and precedes multiple-organ failure. The most common clinical feature of SAE is the consciousness ...

Sepsis-associated encephalopathy: Evolving concepts

Systemic sepsis commonly produces brain dysfunction, sepsis-associated encephalopathy, which can vary from a transient, reversible encephalopathy to irreversible brain damage. The encephalopathy in the acute phase clinically resembles many metabolic encephalopathies: a diffuse disturbance in cerebral function with sparing of the brain stem. The severity of the encephalopathy, as reflected in pr...

Sepsis: From Pathophysiology to Individualized Patient Care

Sepsis has become a major health economic issue, with more patients dying in hospitals due to sepsis related complications compared to breast and colorectal cancer together. Despite extensive research in order to improve outcome in sepsis over the last few decades, results of large multicenter studies were by-and-large very disappointing. This fiasco can be explained by several factors, but one...
